Cabbage Island & Boothbay Harbor, Maine Wedding
I boarded the tiny old wooden boat with some of Andrea’s bridal party. They were Ed’s daughters, carrying trays of food and all of their dresses with them on the boat to Cabbage Island. Andrea and Ed had a really unique venue for their wedding due to Ed being related to the family who owned Cabbage Island off the coast of Boothbay Harbor in Maine. We could see the island from the shore making our crossing only 10 minutes long. It was a crystal clear day making the bay nice and smooth in the tiny boat. Cabbage Island is home to Cabbage Island Clambakes, one of the few places left in Maine you can go to for a truly traditional New England styled clambake.
As we pulled up to the dock I followed Ed’s daughters to the house on the island where I found the bride Andrea. She was getting her hair and makeup done and already looked stunning. I took her details and two dresses getting creative by finding the perfect spot on the island to photograph them. Meanwhile, my second photographer was back on the mainland with Ed photographing him and his groomsmen.
Ed, his groomsmen and the entire rest of the wedding guests arrived by a large ferry about 90 minutes later. The couple had a first look out on the rocks of the scenic island followed by their beautiful ceremony and being married by a family member. The rest of the afternoon revolved around one of the best meals I have ever seen at any wedding. Lobster! A very emotional toasts given by Ed’s daughters in honor of their new stepmother and dad, and of course dancing to the sun going down. At sunset we boarded the ferry back to Boothbay Harbor and watched a stunning sunset as we waved goodbye to the island.
